Well, I’ve taken a slight vacation from the blog since getting married myself.
I am back, happily and proudly betrothed! The wedding was a wonderful event and, as someone who generally is a witness, it was a real delight being the groom. We had a beautiful ceremony which we wrote ourselves. Of course, it seemed so much longer on paper. After the ceremony was over in 10 minutes, I realized I had completely left out the traditional “you may now kiss the bride.”
Our officiant asked why I chose to leave that little piece out. “Chose”??? Oops.
Rachel was absolutely stunning in her dress. Beautiful beadwork and a cathedral length train. Sure, we’ve been living together for a couple of years and have a child but still, when the back door opened and the pianist started the bridal chorus by Wagner, my breath was taken away and I fought back some tears. Yes, even us experienced and somewhat hardened wedding photographers still get moved.
I made it through my vows, as did Rachel, and next thing you know, we were being introduced as a couple. By this time, the sun had just started to set and my beautiful new bride was aglow in the warm golden light. The pictures, taken by an experienced photographer whom I also proudly call a dear friend, captured this moment wonderfully. Once the final images are ready, I’ll add some here.
Luke was adorable in his tuxedo and managed to steal the show from Rachel; neither one of us minded.
All in all, it was a very memorable day.
As a photographer, there was an additional upside to it: I am in the middle of a wonderful career in shooting weddings and, sometimes, I need to remember the love, joy, excitement, fear, nervousness that the bride and groom are feeling at that time. So there I was, standing at the end of the aisle, reflecting on how lucky I am as I watched Rachel come up. A happy groom and a beautiful bride – surrounded and supported by close friends and family.
I know my photography has improved because of this, too.
Blessings,
Rob
