This is a two-in-one posting.
It’s been a while. A long while since I posted. How come, my dear readers? Between the holidays and New Year’s, my son turning one, going on our own honeymoon, and gearing up for a challenging 2009, life has been busy and I’ve fallen behind on blogging. My bad.
But, I remedy that with this entry.
Part 1: Our Honeymoon:
Went to Mexico. To the Riviera Maya, actually. We flew into Cancun and our hotel (A 5-star all-inclusive resort) was about 15 minutes from the great town of Playa del Carmen (“PDC” as it’s known). Bought some great tequila and a bunch of other stuff that we wanted but, of course, didn’t really need. Best fish tacos I have ever had though! We left our son with Grandma and Grandpa for the wekk. We missed him dearly but it was so wonderul to get away as a couple and relax. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of spending time after the wedding with each other to regroup, re-energize, and re-connect.
I’ve said countless times that a wedding is a very stresfl event and that you will find yourself worn down. Time away is a real blessing.
Without boring you too much, we went swimming with the dolphins (including manatees and sea lions): a once-in-a-lifetime event. Met some great people, ate wonderful food, and came home with a renewed sense of optimism and strength to face these challenging economic times.
So here’s the point – Don’t skip the honeymoon. If all you can do is get a hotel in the next state for a week – do it.
The Blog, Part Two:
Wedding photography is not all that I shoot. It’s one of two genres that I love and do well. The other genre that those of you who read this may (or may not) know about is intiamte portraiture. Yeah, often called “boudoir”, but that’s a word I really don’t like. Reminds me of creepy 1970′s hairy chest, medallions, and bad saxaphone muusic.
Intimate portraits are a wonderful way for women (and men) to capture their… their… well, here’s the write up from my site:
Real beauty comes from within: a culmination of pride in who you are, what you’ve achieved, your strength of character, how you view the world and, most importantly, how you view yourself. Beauty exists in you because you see it in yourself.
Why not flaunt the beauty within you?
Intimate portraits are a fun, sensual, and wonderful way to show yourself and the beauty that you radiate. Whether for yourself, to give to your lover, or for whatever reason, intimate portrait sessions make special gifts.
Beauty is not defined by a dress size.
Even MSNBC Is Getting On Board:
Boudoir photography, or sensual photography, is about making the woman comfortable and portraying her in the best light possible. The person’s looks don’t matter as much as how they’re feeling. … Marilyn Monroe stuff back in the day? Now that’s boudoir.
It’s about empowerment and sense of self. And makes a great gift for both yourself and your partner.
See you in ’09,
Rob
